leisurely
I was searching my cupboards this morning looking for some corned beef and came accross a tin of pineapple. Why did I buy it and why would it be available given the superiority of the fresh you can buy at a 10th of the price. One of lifes unanswerables I suppose. Thailand is a massive exporter of canned pineapple, but I wouldn't think there'd be much of a domestic market.
lanny
Oh, but there is a market for canned pineapple in Thailand! It always amused me that the menu for breakfast at Dynasty Inn included "Fresh Fruit" but, what I got was a ring of canned pineapple. As far as I know, they still serve the canned variety. It's like orange juice in Japan. Almost everywhere, including the big hotels, when you order orange juice, you are served a glass of orang soda.
