Defence Minister says narcotics are a grave issue in the deep South

Gen. Boonrawd Somthas (บุญรอด สมทัศน์), the Defence Minister, said narcotics are a much more serious problem in the three southern border provinces of Thailand when being compared to Bangkok and all major districts in other provinces. Moreover, he believes the illicit drugs are alos involved with the southern insurgency. However, the government has already planned a measure to tackle narcotics in the society.

Gen. Boonrawd mentioned about the clear measures to solve the southern unrest, saying the government has empowered Gen. Sonthi Boonyaratglin, the Chairman of the Council for National Security, to watch over this problem.
