Hello,

I tried reading the previous post on the topic but I have difficulties understanding it all... So I call upon you good knowledge!

I am finishing my employment in Thailand at the end of this month (October), going to my home country for a few weeks then coming back to Thailand on holidays for a month (with frequent in and out to neighboring countries).

I have a Non B multiple Entry visa valid for an extra 6-months and a work permit valid until April. (so both expire long after my definitive return)

The embassy in my home country will not deliver tourist visas if you have been in Thailand within the last 3 months, so this is not an option. I am quite scared of going for visa exemption after my "past" of B visas in my passport...

These are my questions:

- Is cancelling my work permit necessary? (My company's absolutely not concerned about this).

- If my work permit is cancel, is my visa cancelled too?

- If my work permit is cancelled but my visa is still valid, will I still be able to get in the country without being able to show a WP? (I will always be flight in and out from Bkk airports)

Thanks a lot,

Claire

If you have a multiple entry non-b visa issued by an embassy or consulate it remains valid after you job ends and your work permit is canceled.

If you have a extension of stay based upon working and a re-entry permit issued by immigration they end on the date your job ends.

If you have a valid visa (obtained from a Thai Embassy/Consulate) you may continue to use it whist it remains valid.

The presence of an expired "B" visa in your passport should not be a problem if you seek a visa exempt entry

Thanks UbonJoe and Fithman, I indeed have a multiple entry non b visa issued by a consulate.

So I will be able to go in and out on my non b visa without any problem? That's great!

This used to be the case some years ago, entering Thailand was never a problem ( with a non B visum, still valid, but without a work permit ). But a few years ago when I went on a private trip to Singapore, and came back on my own Multiple entry non B visum , I got questions ( in Phuket )  ;  where my work permit was ( it was cancelled and I was in the process of switching jobs.. ).  My answer was, that I had a work permit, but I was not coming back from a visa run, but a private trip, which was true... and you are not allowed to take your work permit with you on private trips. They let me in without trouble. But,  land borders with Thailand might not be so easy.

Phuket is particularly tough probably because they have extensive experience of scammers attempting to circumvent the rules.

You say a non B VISA is still valid even if the WP is cancelled or expired?

Are you sure about this?

As I understands it, a B Visa cannot exist without a valid WP.

You are mistaken.

A valid visa is not cancelled and can be used until it expires.

As I understands it, a B Visa cannot exist without a valid WP.

A Single Entry Non Immigrant 'B' Visa is typically only required to enter the country and to qualify the person for an extension of stay to work. It only allows permission to stay for 90 days during which time the person applies for a WP and the extension. The extension is based on the work/WP and should the WP be cancelled or expire the permission to stay becomes invalid. At this point the person needs to arrange an alternative extension of stay or exit the country.

It is possible to get a Multiple Entry Non Immigrant 'B' Visa and instead of applying for an extension of stay the person has to exit/re-enter the country every 90 days. In this case the WP is not linked to the 90 day permission to stay granted on entry and the permission to stay remains valid. The holder can exit/re-enter whether or not a valid WP exists until the visa expires.

Yes you are. The only requirement is that the WP is available for inspection at your place of work when you are at work.
