Maybe its because Aussie role models all emigrated to the UK, where they were better received

".... In total, consular officials dealt with 15,740 cases arising from 10.2 million international departures, or about 43 a day..... "

So appx 0.15% of all departures have issues? Doesnt sound so bad.

Just a cost of doing business it seems. More money is probably spent on vehicular incidences in our home country in less time.

It doesn't sound too bad, but many of those 10.2 M would be frequent travelers, at a guess, so the odds do come down somewhat.  43 people a day soaking up resources is unacceptably high to my way of thinking.

I travel internationally at least three times a year, recreationally.

I still believe that the cost of consular services should be met by the traveler, with perhaps some exceptions, e.g., loss/theft of passport,  hospitalization due to an illness, being the victim of road trauma, not your fault, victim of a crime, etc.

Anybody committing drug crime should be on their own in my view.

You are quite obviously associating with those far less sophisticated than this writer, my friend.  May I be so bold as to suggest you upgrade your criteria for associates/acquaintances/friends??  That is, of course, unless you prefer to associate with the rabble??

I think you'll find the fruit does fall from the tree but not far.

The fruit doesn't fall from my tree. Some vegemite eating stubby drinker takes it before it gets the chance.

There was a topic on ThaiVisa a few years ago: How are you going to celebrate Australia Day?

One of the replies was: "By avoiding those places where Australians congregate."

Priceless.
