In May of last year, I purchased a Lenovo Z5070 laptop and according to Lenovo support online entering the serial number, it is still under warranty until Feb 2017.

 

I have already spoken to the Lenovo call center about my problems and they told me that I initially need a new keyboard.  

 

I have experienced many problems since the loss of the keyboard namely:

 

Intermittent start up, Click on a program and another one opens, unable to scroll down a page, open docs and all the other folders open, downloads, photos, etc.  I even tried a reset but the last page 'Your account" asks for your name and without a keyboard that's impossible so therefore the reset is stuck and of course wont finalize.  Not being technically minded at a guess I would say it's a boot problem.   Have tried the usual f1 and f2 but nothing and even if I was able to access the boot menu, I have no input.

 

Lenovo advised me to take it to a service center in Bangkok which I will do tomorrow and have chosen Lenovo Pantip Plaza 4th floor which is the nearest to me.

 

"Are there are tips or tricks I should be aware of before speaking with Mr Service man/lady although I will be accompanied by my wife so there will be no language barriers.

Have you tried it with an external keyboard yet? That would be my first bet.....

 

   Be careful with Thai woman's technical explanations. You might come back and get a vacuum cleaner ( or "hoover")  instead.

 

    I hope some guys will give you the needed advice ASAP.

yes, an external keyboard would be a cheap and easy place to start.  They're handy to have around anyway, if you don't already have one.

I've got a few sitting around, you can have one for free. Rob, i don't buy the broken keyboard story, but it's maybe just a feeling. Please report back, I'd love to help you out of your dilemma.

 It might not be necessary to do a reset. A Chinese website intruder  or anything similar could cause such behaviour.

My primary laptop is a Lenovo Z510 which also developed a keyboard problem at the around the 20 month point of it's 24 month warranty.  Pretty similar to to a Z5070 design.  Basically a group of keys on on the left side of the keyboard were intermittent...some worked perfectly....some not at all...sometimes intermittently from second to second.

 

With an external USB keyboard the computer worked fine.  I took my laptop to a Lenovo service center on the west side of Bangkok, proved to/demonstrated to them it was a bad keyboard, they ordered the keyboard from the main stocking point in the IBM building in central Bangkok, I took my laptop back home and continued to use it with an external keyboard,  the service center got the keyboard in two days and called me, I took my laptop back and they changed the keyboard while I waited (took them about 30 minutes to do the change and associated paperwork).  Changing the keyboard is not hard as I had removed it before taking it to the service center just to ensure the had a good connection.   Anyway, repair was free and the keyboard is still working fine a year or so later....the computer is now around 3 years old. 

 

I really didn't want to leave my laptop with them waiting for the keyboard to arrive because I just didn't want them to to have extended access to info on the hard drive....sure they had the computer for about 30 minutes for the keyboard swap-out and could have snooped around on the drive but I doubt they did.  Yea, I just wanted to continue to use the computer pending replacement part arrival and not let them keep the computer for days (or longer).  Worked out well.

Does that mean the Service Center swapped the keyboard for free under warranty,  you or the service center found/fixed something else causing the problem, etc?    Just what was the final fix?
