Metropolitan Police confirm orderliness in Bangkok

Kitti Cheevasittiyanon

BANGKOK, 23 October 2016 (NNT) - The city police have confirmed that the situation throughout Bangkok has been calm and orderly, so far.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol. Lt-Gen. Sanit Mahathavorn on Saturday led a team of officers to inspect the traffic conditions and the general situation in Bangkok as more people have continued traveling to the city to pay their respects to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Pol. Lt-Gen. Sanit said that, as the influx of mourners has made the use of metal detectors insufficient for the screening process, new measures and more officials have been added to help ensure the safety of the public.

He affirmed that there has been nothing out of the ordinary while expressing his belief that members of the public will cooperate with the authorities in keeping the situation calm and peaceful.

However, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner has urged mourners to avoid bringing their personal vehicles to the Sanam Luang area in order not to aggravate the already-congested traffic conditions while suggesting those, who have questions about suitable routes to call the traffic hotline number 1197 for information.
