Can I renew visa early?

Recommended Posts

My visa (non o based on marraige) from Savanakhet runs out 29 Feb. Around the same time I have to renew an Angolan visa. This can take up to 60 days with Angola holding your passport.

I return to work 22 Feb and it would be easier for me to get the non O in Savan first. Is that possible?

YMMV. Last year I wanted to do the same, but the Thai Embassy in The Hague refused to accept my application, saying I could NOT appply for a new Non-Immigrant O visa while the one I had was still valid. I had to wait till the old one had expired.

People have been able to get it done early in Savannakhet.

On the same note, I need to renew my passport when I return to Australia ??

I currently have a retirement visa which on re-entry was extended till January 2017.

Can I apply for another retirement visa before this date once I obtain my new passport ? I won't be back in time today apply here. Thanks

Assumptions:

  • You do not have an unexpired visa
  • You have an extension of stay based on retirement
  • You have a valid re-entry permit to keep your current permission to stay intact if you leave and re-enter Thailand
  • You wish to have your current permission to stay canceled when you leave Thailand, and apply for a new Non Imm O or Non Imm O-A visa while in Australia.

The 100% reliable solution is to have your re-entry permit canceled before leaving Thailand. This will ensure that you have no right to re-enter without another visa. This is only necessary in the case of a really brain-dead consular official. If you tell the consulate that you will be returning to Thailand after expiry of the re-entry permit, there is no logical reason for denying you a new visa (always assuming, of course, that you meet the normal requirements). If you were returning to Thailand while the re-entry permit was still valid, the consulate could (though unlikely) refuse to issue a new visa, saying they could not cancel the re-entry permit (which operates like a visa) and you cannot have two valid visas at the same time.

Just to clarify things:

. My retirement visa was issued in January 2015. It was extended in May to January 2017 upon my return to Thailand via my re-entry permit.

i fly out 7 November to Australia for a 3 month stay, thus returning 8 February 2017.

in March 2017 my passport expires so I intend to get a new one in Australia.

I want to apply for another non immigrant O-A visa once I get my new passport.

( my old passport and visa would have expired when I return ).

I won't get another re-entry permit as I will be doing the above.

When the Thai consulate receives my passport and new application will it be a problem if it is before 17 January 2017 ? I don't want to apply after this date as it will leave me very little time to process the application before flying back to Thailand.

They will accept the visa application since your permit to stay will end on the date you are stamped of the country.

Your visa expired in January of this year so it is certainly not a factor now.
