People queue up in one km line to get commemorative banknotes

BANGKOK, 25 October 2016 (NNT) – Lines of people queuing up to exchange for commemorative banknotes at Bangkok Bank's headquarters has stretched across a distance of almost a kilometer.

A large number of people have queued up to exchange money for banknotes commemorating the late the King's 84th birthday anniversary at 8:30 a.m. at Bangkok Bank's headquarter. Since early morning, the line continued to stretch as more people came to wait in line. The line reportedly spanned a distance of almost a kilometer.

The Bangkok Bank has allocated 800,000 commemorative banknotes from the Bank of Thailand and 10,000 of them were allocated to Bangkok Bank’s headquarters. The rest of the banknotes have been allocated to other Bangkok Bank branches nationwide.

The banknotes were printed in commemoration of His Majesty’s seventh cycle birthday anniversary in 2011, in 100 and 200 baht notes and they come in an envelope.

Each person is allowed to purchase no more than five sets or 1000 baht. Moreover, there are music boxes sold for 100 baht each, while the revenues from the music boxes will be used to fund various foundations under the royal patronage.

Interested persons can exchange regular money for commemorative banknotes at all Bangkok Bank branches in Bangkok and at bank branches in other provinces until stocks are depleted.
