Registration Number Plate, Front Placing?

Featured Replies

HI All, is it legal to place the front registration number on  the left or right of the front the car, I need more air flow through the radiators.

I have seen cars with this configuration, but was informed maybe not allowed.

Thank you.

Regards Tom

The Mitsubishi Lancer often has the plate to the nearside so it seems there's no problem with it.

Ive run no front plate and a concealed front plate (behind the grille). both were frowned upon but now run an offset plate (under the left head light) and that has been of no concern to date.

Hi Tom

Is this overheating on your Caribian ... did you get the engine re-built or find a 2nd hand one? ... or chuck it in the ditch and buy something else ...  just interested

I put a front bar on for 5 auxiliary lights & it partially obscured part of the plate but could be seen if standing 20-30 feet away....

There was a 400b fine going through the next road check.....

+ the laughing I told you so from the wife when I got home....

We're on the road every day so I watched for placement on vehicles & left - right - high & low seemed to make no difference as long as visible.....Seems to be no hard line standards like there are in the states....

I've seen them on the left (passenger) side on Alfa Romeos here as the centre is not an option due to the V shaped grille, so can't see it being an issue.

Was once told that even in the UK the front plate on my old e-type was not strictly legal because it was not on a vertical surface.

Not too many E's here so would be interesting to know how the BIB would look at it.

Just a personal opinion, but depending on the model of my ride, if a front plate looked too daft, I'd just take the occasional checkpoint fine.
