Police make final preparations for the Big Day on Saturday

BANGKOK: -- National police chief Chakthip Chaichinda called a special meeting of senior metropolitan police officers to discuss final preparations for the opening of Dusit Maha Prasart throne hall in the Grand Palace to members of the public to pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol scheduled on Saturday.

 

Pol Gen Chakthip told the officers of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha’s concern for the safety of members of the public and their convenience in travelling to the Grand Palace.

 

He disclosed that about 1,300 surveillance cameras had been installed in and around Sanam Luang and the Grand Palace to ensure safety for mourners who are expected to come in droves to pay respect to the late King this Saturday.

 

To facilitate the flow of traffic and to prepare parking space for buses and cars which carry mourners from upcountry provinces, the military has opened its barracks in Nakhon Sawan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachuab Khiri Khan and Buddha Monthon as rest areas for the vehicles and their passengers.

Army camps to be used as resting areas for Bangkok-bound mourners
    
BANGKOK, 28 October 2016 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Army is ready to open army camps as resting areas for people traveling from other provinces to the Grand Palace in Bangkok as a way of facilitating their journey. 

 

Deputy Spokesperson of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Col Sirichan Ngathong revealed that Army Chief Gen Chalermchai Sittisart, in his capacity as NCPO Secretary-General, has assigned officials of the peace and order maintaining command in each province to provide utmost convenience for mourners who will be heading to Bangkok to pay respects to the body of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. 

 

The officials were told to join forces with local administrators in doing so and to allow motorists to rest in army camps en route to Bangkok. The army camps to be open to the public include Chiraprawat Camp in Nakhon Sawan, Si Patcharin Camp in Khon Kaen, Suranari Camp in Nakhon Ratchasima and Thanarat Camp in Prachuap Khiri Khan. 

 

On the perimeter of Bangkok, motorists will be able to park their vehicles at IMPACT Mueang Thong Thani and in the Phutthamonthon Sai 4 area and use transport services provided by the Army Region 1 to the Grand Palace. 

 

Moreover, military cadets as well as medical and nursing students from the Four Armed Forces will be deployed to assist people around the Grand Palace from October 29 onwards.
