‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Mel Gibson’s homage to a real life superhero

Mel Gibson is back in the directors chair with his latest film ‘Hacksaw Ridge.’

The movie is based on the true story of US army medic Desmond Thomas Doss.

Doss became the first American conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

He refused to bear arms, but rescued wounded soldiers from the front line.

Doss saved 75 comrades under heavy fire during the Battle of Okinawa in World War II.

Andrew Garfield “As a human being not a fictional superhero, but a real life flesh and bone human being, to walk in into the middle of a battlefield with no cape, with no body armor, with no gun, with no weapon, with a bible and love in his heart and a longing to heal and take care of his brothers be they Japanese or American, that’s beyond heroic. That’s transcendent.”

Mel Gibson explained what finally attracted him to the project:“You’d have to be made of stone to not to respond to the true story of who this man was and what he did. Could I do that? I don’t think so. But it just breaks my heart to think somebody can and it fills my heart to think there are some people like that and there are still people like that.”

‘Hacksaw Ridge’ is out in November.

Better to just see the documentary on Desmond Doss than religious fanatic Gibsons view.

A post has been removed.

It would be a good documentary except the version furnished is poorly done, still worth it. One hell of a man. Let's hope that Gibson's isn't over the top on religion instead of the man. RIP Desmond Doss. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Doss

You obviously dislike Gibson, but his  "we were soldiers" had no religion in it at all, and was a well crafted film.
