Mourners advised to get queue cards and dress properly tomorrow in front of royal urn to pay last respect

BANGKOK: -- Authorities have informed that starting tomorrow mourners planning to pay their last tribute in front of His late Majesty’s body would be required to get queue numbers before they could enter the Grand Palace.

According to the Peace and Order Maintaining Command (POMC) after a meeting with all relevant government agencies to make preparation for tomorrow’s big day, it informed that 10,000 queue cards could be given out daily to visitors arriving to pay their last respect to the body of the late King at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall.

After 10,000 queue numbers have been given out, it would signify that the queuing is finished for the day, though extra queue numbers might be given out once an evaluation of the situation on each day is completed.

Royal Thai Army (RTA) spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree said the ceremony to pay the last respect to His Majesty King Bhumibol’s body would take longer than the ceremony taken place at the Saha Thai Samakom pavilion, where the public would only be paying respect to the portrait of His late Majesty.

He then noted that it is essential that a queue number be given to each person, as the numbers would help divide the attendees into groups and they could travel in groups into the Grand Palace to pay their last respect.

He said the general public could also learn about what to do and where to go from a mapping chart which would be put up around the area.

The queue numbers would be given out at the Wat Mahatat temple starting at 8 am sharp every day, where no one would be able to obtain a queue number beforehand.

A woman just asked me if I had any black shirts she could borrow because she is a bit large. She's going there tomorrow to pay her respects. This is putting a lot of stress on the poor and those who can't find clothes. I have black shirts but I also wear other color shirts some days with the black bow on them. I just can't walk into a Lotus or BigC and buy a shirt off the rack. I feel sorry for the big Thais who must have this because they live in the downtown areas where everyone is wearing black.

How many hours, ...or minutes, has it taken before the first queue ticket was offered for sale, may I ask?

Why not 'go basic': a(-n intricate) stamp on (the inside of) the wrist, 'permanent' ink, different stamp and ink colour every day? No doubt everyone wearing the stamp will be proud of it. Too simple?
