Visa for parents ( if married to thai)

Featured Replies

In case a person is married to a thai national can that person's parents get a dependent visa if they can what would be the requirements for that then..just curious

Thanks

Not if you have an extension of stay based on marriage. It would be possible if you had an extension based on retirement even if you were married.

While the response by @elvajero is essentially correct, I would add a proviso. A dependent visa for your parents while you are in Thailand on an extension of stay on the basis of marriage would not automatically be issued. However, the consulates have a fair amount of latitude in such matters, and can grant visas to other family members. Some consulates, assured of the close relationship between your wife and your parents, might be willing to oblige. It would not hurt to ask.

That would be for an extension of stay as his dependents but not for a visa at an embassy or consulate. Also for retirement they would have to be 50 or over.

They could get a non-o visa to visit family and most embassies and consulate would more likely to issue it with proof of an extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai.

To clarify my post, I was assuming the OP is after a 'visa' (extension of stay) to allow his parents to live in Thailand.

your parents can´t be get extension because you are married to a thai, Onyl if you would be underage (21) and you would leagaly live in Thailand, like ED Visa, and even then they would need 500.000 baht on bank or yearly income

Your parents would get a 3 month Non O Visa visiting family, but no extension in your case

Not correct. There are many extension of stay that allow parents to get extensions if they are 50 or over with no financial proof under clause 2.20 of the police order.

Extensions of stay based upon marriage or for being the parent of a Thai are not one of those though.

There isn't really a short answer as there are several options based on their age, financial standing, time they want to stay in Thailand and the basis you have extended your stay. If you can give a more specific scenario it will be easier for someone to advise you.
