PATTAYA: -- At 9pm, on the evening of October 31, Banglamung police station received reports of a man hanging inside an apartment at Soi Nongyai Temple M. 6 Nakleau.

A large crowd had gathered outside the three-story apartment building whilst Sawang Boriboon medics attended to forty-eight-year old Mr. Somporn Sookthonglang, who was wearing a blue motorcycle taxi bib.

Mr Sookthonglang was declared dead at the scene.

His son, eighteen-year old Mr Natthapol Sookthonglang, said that he had been out but received a phone call from a neighbor telling him to go home. He said his father had large debts that he was having trouble paying and that a few days earlier had a major argument with his mother.

Mr Sookthongland junior believes this may have contributed to his father’s decision.

Condolences to the  Sookthonglang family. The motorbike taxi drivers are some of the nicest people I have come accross in Pattaya, 99% always friendly, safe and fair. It was only on my last few rides a few days ago that I realised how little they make each year - well below what we might expect. I would assume it would be hard to pay off any reasonable debt on what they earn. Very sad to see someone pass because of a hole too big to escape from. I make a point to use the same riders when I can, I usually pick an older one, and slip an extra 20 knowing that they provide a service far quicker and friendlier than other transportation options in Pattaya.

RIP to the poor man.And his family.

He must have been out of his mind with worry.Buy sadly,if he was a true Buddhist and saw this as an easy way out, because he would be back the next day, then i fear for his religious beliefs.

As in all religions that promise eternal life,or coming back,as another,Christendom,(in all forms)Judaism,Islamic,Buddhist, and the rest, rely on people believing in Bull shit.

A Thai woman once told me,that That young Thai men are told that if they kill a ferang, they come back as one.

Now that is a very scary thought.
