BANGKOK, 5 November 2016 (NNT) – The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) has increased the number of traffic police officers to 1,400, providing assistance to people traveling to mourn the late King at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, urging the general public to use public transport.

The Acting Deputy Commissioner of the MPB Jirapat Phumjit said 27 roads around the Grand Palace will be closed today to control the large number of people traveling to mourn the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

Travel around the Grand Palace and Sanam Luang will only be possible by public shuttle buses.

Thammasat University will today be holding a rehearsal for their graduation commencement ceremony. Students and their parents are advised not to take their private vehicle into the area and to use public transport instead. Parking in the campus will not be available.

To accommodate the number of tourists expected to visit the Grand Palace over the weekend, the MPB has arranged a tourist bus pick-up and drop-off schedule that alternates with bus services for mourners from other provinces, to avoid congestion.

The MPB today mobilized 4,000 traffic police officials to provide traffic facilitation, and set up eight security checkpoints to screen for weapons and dangerous items as well as recording footage on CCTVs.

I don't  understand why cars still can park on the very busy roads in the area causing even more congestion. They just park on the left lane, who cares about the rest. Then one parked car wanted to drive off and missed to see the bus coming from the back so yup there was a collission...mai pen lai, we just wait untill the insuranceguy shows up and traffic can wait for that... Thailand only krab
