I have Fibromyalgia and have become addicted to Tramadol.

I am about to give it up.

Before I do that I need to have other meds to replace it  with.

What are the best non addictive meds that I can get in Thailand.

I am also taking Amitripiline.I need to know what are the  "harmless"

meds like paracetamol and ibroprophen that I can get.How to combine them and the best doses.

I don't think that my Fibromyalgia is as bad as it was when I started taking Tramadol.

Hi Chaingrai,

I feel for you. [emoji3]

Background

I got that after a bad trauma incident, involving a work related back accident.

Well that was my eventual diagnosis, done by a specialist at an old people's home, who specialised in treating arthritis. Ever one of my joints hurt. I was in a neck brace, a million Tens machines, on all the medication for relaxation etc. so they xrayed all my hurting joints, wrists, ankles, neck, back, feet, everything, and they could find no signs of arthritis. So fibromyalgia, or....we don't know what you've got so go away.

The good news

That was when I was about 47 yrs old, now near 71.

The good news, from my experience is that it does burn itself out I think.

I still have the troubled back, but now usually know what to expect, as I have nerve damage down there (from bad back surgeries). But the attacks from the fybromialgia seem to be a lot less frequent and easy to manage.

I think the most beneficial thing is swimming and water aerobics and hot tubs, massage, saunas, and a hot water bottle.

Medicine

A bottle of nice red wine seems to take the edge of pain in the evenings. ? But you have to watch that also as it's moreish (that means you want to eat more =weight goes up = more stress on joints = more pain).

The slow release 650 mg penadol is Ok. (2 every 6 hrs).

I saw on another thread someone recommended Neurontin 300 mg, I had a go and not bad, bit milder than Lyrica.

I also take a 75 mg Lyrica, now and again, but not all the time.

I try not to take tablets.

What I take now is a powder mixed in water called ElasticJoint. It has: 2000 mg MSM, 1500 mg Glucosamine, 1200 mg Chondroitin, and 5000 mg Gelation.

It may just be 'in my head' but this ElasticJoint seems good to me.

Shery will know more.

Hope this helps.

PS I buy my stuff from the States, IHerb mob. [emoji41]

Paracetemol and a wide range of NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac etc etc) are readily available here. With the NSAIDs, need to be careful of gastric irritation.

Fibromylagia pain is also often helped by neuroleptics like gabapentin (neurontin) or pregbalin (Lyrica). But better not to self-prescribe these. Also better to have a doctor supervise the weaning off tramadol. I suggest seeing a pain management specialist.

I don't know of any in Chiang Rai, but there  is a Pain Clinic at CMU Hospital and can likely see the same doctors through Sripat. Can also see one of their specialists, Dr. Worakamol Tiyaprasertkul, at Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai.

Thanks for the support guys,

I'm still unclear about what to take when I actually feel pain, where I would normally

take Tramadol,what do I take.

Like before I had a back problem and was advised to take Muscle Relaxints

                                                                                                        Diclofenic and

                                                                                                       Paracetamol together.

Is there a similar combination for Fibromyalgia.I will take Pregabolin for the opium withdrawals and try to get a doctor to give me a weeks supply of valium. So that aside,

how should I combine the NSAIDS when I feel pain.

I think Sheryl's advice about being looked after by a professional is good advice.

I sort of know my body now and when to take what, so I know what I'm doing, but I can't say it would be the same for you.

I'm not a dr, but I think you could get the slow release penadol 650mg (think its Tylenol over here) and have 2.. 3 times a day. Don't think that will harm you and will take the edge off the pain.

I'd be careful of the valium. Great drug, but only for a week, or you're going to get hooked on it as well.

All these drugs are good, but the best is hot water bottle, massage, swimming. But that's only me.

That's just my experience.
