Many sectors help buy rice from farmers

LOPBURI, 9 November 2016 (NNT) - Military units have bought rice from farmers directly to cook for their forces. Many provinces have set up the areas where rice farmers can sell their produce to consumers directly.

In Lopburi, the provincial administration has joined hands with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to sell many types of rice to civil servants and the general public at the City Hall. Farmers who sold rice at the City Hall said they were happy with the prices at which they sold rice here.

In Nong Khai province, army officers from a provincial army unit have bought four tons of rice from farmers who are customers of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives in Mueang district. The army unit will buy rice from the farmers every month at the prices slightly higher than the market.

In Yasothon, army officers from the 16th Infantry Regiment have bought 10 tons of organic rice at 50 baht from a local cooperative. The rice will be consumed by the unit’s forces and given as gifts and souvenirs.

In Ang Thong, a local social enterprise will buy 30 tons of rice for farmers to be milled at the Thep Prathan rice mill founded by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The milled rice will be packed in 5-kilo bags and sold to consumers.
