Foodland doubles investment budget to Bt500m next year as it expands retail, food operations
By THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- FOODLAND SUPERMARKET is doubling its annual investment budget to Bt500 million next year as part of a strategic expansion of its retail and food businesses.

Chief executive officer Somsak Teerapattanakul said that under the budget, the company would open four or five more Foodland stores next year, and add three new restaurant brands under its portfolio: a Japanese ramen chain, a roasted-goose restaurant business from Hong Kong, and a street-restaurant business from Singapore.

Some of the investment sum will also be spent on the expansion of its existing restaurant interests, including two new Tim Ho Wan dim-sum restaurants, five Took Lae Dee food courts, five Soutao Canton restaurants, and three Mr Pizza outlets.

Foodland rules! The best supermarket of BKK but they need more shops or we go to the Makro.

Their butchers need to learn english..

I like Foodland as well. The amount of Thai required to speak with the butchers is so minimal and would really benefit you for each visit. It just becomes very repetitive and easy after awhile. Why not just take  a little time today and learn some more Thai.

Sorry to highjack the thread, but can you give me a heads up on when it is opening and where it will be located, please?

Either here or via PM.

Thanks.

Nope it's BKK, the pillar of the ASEAN (where all the other Asian Capitals speak much better english than in BKK). The biggest city of Thailand full of quality tourists (who don't speak thai fyi).

Foodland with that english name and western service/quality, except the personell lacks it.

"ASEAN (where all the other Asian Capitals speak much better english than in BKK)".

So people in Phnom Penn and Vientienne speak better English than those in Bangkok, really!

And I suppose you think the supermarkets in those cities are also better!!

Who'd ever have thought those things!

And given the huge number of Chinese speakers over English speakers in Asean countries, shouldn't Chinese be the second language, rather than a very distant third, English!

Love foodland. That place gets a deeper wai from me than any temple ever will.

Totally agree. Foodland has to be the best supermarket chain around. Tops has to be at the bottom just based on their grossly higher prices alone.

Quick plug for Foodland Soi 5 Pharmacy - they have a cheaper GPO/Thai generic of many. maybe most drugs. Last night I asked for an uncommon antibiotic by trade name and was asked unprompted if I was sure I wanted the trade name version as there is a 1/5 price Thai generic available.

Note: best ask if they have a GPO/Thai generic as they know me after many years and know that I often check if there is a local version.

Disclosure: No affiliation other than as customer.

No doubt the prices next year will reflect the expansion.

Great inventory, however many seniors who are retired struggle to keep up with inflation, taxes and medical insurance premiums.

....2 for 1 sales.....

foodland often has buy 1 get 1 free, or buy 2 get 1 free promotions as well, and its not for expired products like what many other supermarkets offer.

I found some items such as sesame seeds even cheaper in foodland compare to Lotus.

Amazing that Chai Mai does not have one or do they? At the present stage of world affairs I would go easy on going overboard expansion wise. Fresh vegetables spoil fast when sitting in the bins to long.
