BANGKOK: -- THAMMASAT UNIVERSITY plans to arrange a litter-free commencement day at its campus near Sanam Luang during ceremonies tomorrow and Sunday.

Speaking as Volunteers for Dad centre director, Thammasat University deputy president Prinya Thaewanarumitkul said the university was finding solutions to manage rubbish during the commencement ceremony and if the system works it could be applied to the royal funeral at Sanam Luang.

Prinya said the centre had received 30,000 commemorative glasses from Amway, 20,000 of which would be sold to people attending the commencement ceremony, while others would be used at the volunteer centre.

What a headline - speaks volumes.

Littering seems to be a cultural norm.

I've always said that simply telling people not to litter is not enough.

People have to be taught 'why' littering is bad. And it's not as simple as it's ugly and bad for the environment. There's so much more to it that will help you connect other dots. The bigger picture.

Actually, these Thai graduations are usually filled with endless flowers and balloons. So are they going to have black flowers and black balloons?

yep and appropriate punishment with a functioning police/legal system too

Just do like Singapore/Hongkong/Tokyo  on the campus..works very well.

It is a great initiative and an excellent platform to build upon. These changes are generational, always are successful in the younger as they grow older and a university graduation terrific idea. Should be commended as this is how better practice takes hold more generally. Nothing to poke at here.
