PHNOM PENH, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian police on Thursday arrested two men for jointly creating a fake Facebook account that used the name of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, a senior police official said.

Lieutenant General Y Sokhy, chief of the Interior Ministry's department for combating terrorism and transnational crimes, identified the two suspects as Chhuon Sarun, 39, a microfinance institution employee, and Suon Chan Ratanak, 24, a telephone repairman.

"Also, they falsified documents as well as signature of the head of the government," he told a press conference, adding that their action had caused damage to the honor of the prime minister.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court's deputy prosecutor Seang Sok said the duo were facing the charges of falsifying public documents and using the falsified documents, which could carry a prison term between seven and 15 years.

Facebook is very popular in the Southeast Asian country, where some 6.5 million, or 45 percent, of the population have access to the Internet.

Hun Sen has only one Facebook page, which was launched in September last year under the name "Samdech Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister." As of Thursday, his page attracted more than 6.13 million likes.
