Surasak Montri Task Force helps farmers sell rice

UDON THANI, 14 November 2016 (NNT) - Royal Thai Army Region 2 Commander Lt. Gen. Wichai Chajorhor visited Suthorn Thammathada Military Base to observe the progress of an operation to help rice farmers cope with declining rice prices in Udon Thani.

Lt. Gen. Wichai was welcomed by Chief of Surasak Montri Task Force Maj. Gen. Somchart Nan-udon and other high-ranking military officials from the military base. The commander of the Royal Thai Army Region 2 said his visit was to emphasize the need for the military to help the rice farmers amid price slump.

A space inside the military camp will be allocated for farmers to sell their grains. The military also purchased rice from the farmers to feed its soldiers. Local government offices and supermarkets have also been assisting the farmers and allowing farmers to sell rice on their premises.

In addition, many soldiers along with the public have been helping the farmers harvest rice grains so as to help them reduce production costs.
