DPMs hand down policy to Ministry of Labor

BANGKOK, 14 November 2016 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Ministers for security and economic affairs have handed down policy as part of the Thailand 4.0 objective to executives of the Ministry of Labor.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Gen Prawit Wongsuwan and Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak have handed down policy to the Ministry of Labor following an inspection visit.

The two deputy premier’s asserted the need to adhere to the nation’s 20 year development plan and the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan. They called for more work to be done to deal with foreign laborers, emphasizing management and protection of those working in the fisheries sector. They said an overhaul of laws pertaining to foreign workers is needed, especially to combat against the illegal trafficking of laborers and to improve Thailand’s standing on the issue next year.

The deputy prime ministers asserted that the Ministry of Labor must expedite its review of ILO treaties and adopt at least 3 of them to solidify the country’s intention to improve its labor conditions. They concluded by reiterating the need for the ministry to continue to push for changes in line with the Thailand 4.0 agenda.
