I am hoping you can help. My cousin is visiting from the U.K. He is going to Penang first and is going to get an setv there. He has transferred his vacation money to me via my British bank and kept enough for his Malaysian trip. He has been told he will need to have 20,000Baht on him when he enters Thailand via Don Muang even though he will have an setv. Is this information correct he will have his bank cards with him thanks in advance

If he has a tourist visa the chances of needing the 20k baht at an airport are small.

Perhaps he got info for doing a border crossing at the Malaysian border on entry to the country.

It's highly unlikely that he will be asked to show 20K baht at the border.

A Westerner, looking half presentable, entering using a visa at Don Muang will 100% not be asked to show money.
