Best option for SETV

Featured Replies

I want to know the cheapest, easiest and quickest destination to go to with regard getting a SETV. I want to go to Pengang however the flight options look rather limited. I would prefer to leave the country by air rather than land.

What is your nationality?

The  cheapest, easiest and quickest destination would depend on where you are located in Thailand

You'll probably need to decide between cost and convenience. I expect that Malaysia would be the cheapest, but IMO Vientiane, Laos is the most convenient.

I am based in bangkok

For mix of convenience and cost, I think the Penang option is good, assuming you use an agent to apply for the visa. I suggest using Expedia to book a combined flight+hotel deal (Chulia Mansion Hotel, by the way, is a good choice). Booked a few weeks in advance, this is usually not expensive. The hotel can ask an agent to come by to collect your passport if you do not want to be bothered walking to one.

Vientiane Laos is not bad. Flights into and out of Vientiane itself do not mesh well with the timing for visa application and collection. However, you can fly through Udon Thani leaving a fairly short onward journey by land.

A little more expensive, but with great deals, relatively, right now is Hong Kong. I actually managed return flights on Hong Kong Express and three days hotel (small cheap single) for around 5,700 baht a couple of months ago. Hopefully, it will still be under 8,000 baht. Applying for visas there is super easy. If you have never been to Hong Kong, it is something to consider. It is an interesting place.
