On behalf of a mate who isn't a TV member,, he's under 50 years old,, not married but together with his Thai wife (ceremony only),, they have a Thai child between them, he's on the birth certificate as the father, doesn't have a Thai bank account yet but trying to sort one with extreme difficulty (the joys of not staying in tourist area),, he works offshore month on/off and he's been entering on visa exempt although had a couple of tourist visas, but wants to apply for a 1 year non Imm o multi entry visa based on having Thai child,,, he's thinking in going to Penang,,, he took a trip last week to singapore and visited the consulate there, he was told he requires DNA AND court order confirming he is father, also was told he must show a return ticket (which I can't understand why they asked for this)

His question: can he apply for this visa in Penang?

Can anyone confirm the (based on Thai child) requirements for Penang if possible to apply there?

What suffices as proof of funds? Are salary slips sufficient? Must proven finances be in thai bank?

Any other favourable consulates in the region that he should consider?

Thanks in advance

  1. Yes it's possible to get ME Non 'O' visa as the parent of a Thai at the Penang consulate.
  2. The money doesn't need to be in a Thai bank account.
  3. It's probably the only place in the region that he'll get the visa.

If gets his parenthood legitimized he can get a 1 year extension of stay/ME re-entry permit from immigration. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/381917-how-to-gain-parental-rights-as-a-father/

Thanks,, does he require the DNA and court order for this,, also what constitutes proof of the funds? Salary slips ok?

  1. No DNA test or court order is needed at Penang.
  2. They will accept proof of income that must be equivalent to at least 40K baht pm. I don't know what they will accept as proof but I would imagine payslips would do it. There are few reports of getting this visa, and I don't recall any that confirm what will be accepted as proof of income. You/your friend could contact one of the agents in Penang who would confirm what's needed. Here's a couple; http://jimsplacepenang.tripod.com or http://bananapenang.com/main/

I get that visa, I am a legally divorced single dad - but do have a new girlfriend, we have chosen not to get married but have been living together for about 5 years now. This is my current working list for a visa - BUT - I went to day and having to get my already notarized income statement (mine happens to be the USA embassy) now has to be legalized at the Thai Bureau of Immigration I think it is?  It's the place where Thai people get their passports issued, on Chaeng Wattana.   You can get same day service if you get there between 8:30 and 9:30 - I think it's 400 baht.  I didn't make it, have to go back - and I offered up to 2000 baht for same day service (I got there at 10) and they would not budge :(   You used to be able to buy that kind of service :(

Notarized statement of income plus one copy
* NEW - this statement must be legalized at the Thai bureau at Chaeng Wattana
Letter of attendence from school plus one copy
Copies of divorce/custody papers
Copies of birth certificate
Copy of girlfriend's home registration
Copy of daughter's home registration
Copy of girlfriend's ID
Copy of daughter's passport & ID
Copies of current visa, current entry, current immigration form
Map of house location plus one copy
pictures of daughter and I at home (on the sofa, at the kitchen table, in her bedroom, showing house address), at school

Wish you all the best -

Hi, so just to be clear,,, so for the proof of income,,,, he must first visit the Embassy of home country (U.K.) to get income statement,,, based on his salary slips, then visit the Thai bureau of immigration at Chang Wattana to get this income statement legalised,, ? Is this correct
Thanks

Not to get a visa at Penang.

He was writing about an extension of stay from immigration and some of what he wrote does not apply at most immigration offices. Also it would be a verification of the consular officers signature at the department of consular affairs not immigration.

Salary slips would be accepted.

I was told by http://bananapenang.com/main/ that they would only accept $400k lump sum in Thai bank and not the monthly income, possibly the woman that i spoke with was giving wrong info and the monthly income statements are still applicable.

She also said that you can't work on a dependent visa which is BS and this is possibly why she was giving wrong info about payslips/monthly income etc.

cheers
