Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday floated the idea of putting up walls along the entire Thai-Malaysia border to block the smuggling of bombs and similar devices for use in attacks by insurgents. The Army chief did not provide details on the type of walls, the materials they would be built with or their height. He only used the Thai word for "fence" that will supposedly block smugglers from carrying contraband items across the border.

It could be a weekend project. The Thai Mayalsian border is 650km, whereas the US Mexico border is 3,000km plus.

Would full-time guards living on-site be border boarders?

If it helps to curb the southern terrorists and in any way stops or hinders the flow of ill intentioned people and materials used by them, I'd say, do it.

Even if Malaysia don't pay.

From a reliable Thai source,many of the weapons are provided by certain individuals within the Thai Army ???

What about Northern & Eastern borders?  no human or Drug trafficking ? ?

The main problem with history is that we never learn anything from history as far as mistakes go.

 

In this day and age, unless he makes the foundations at least 10 metres down, has 24/7 seaward patrols on both sides and establishes a no-fly zone the whole idea is a folly. The only people to gain will be the contractors, and i wonder who they will be?

Thing is .. There's already walls .. They may not run the whole length of it, but they do exist.

 

In the places where there isn't a wall, there's are huge frigging mountain

ranges and impenetrable jungle in the shape of national parks on both sides of the border for over 50km.

 

There are also back entrances to the southern brothel towns that are all well known - so Malays can hop in and out without having stamps in their passports.

 

Does he really think those bottles of bootleg fuel that are sold everywhere down here get dropped by helicopter ? Tankers come through the border checkpoints in the graveyard shift or via sea after the customs patrol vessels are paid off.

 

If I wanted to enter into Thailand illegally, the best place would be Sadao border on a Sunday afternoon, just stroll through - no one would bat an eyelid.

 

 

 

Might be a good idea to curtail people smugglers, terrorists, separatists and stop a lot of the violence hurting innocent people in the South.

Israel is real good at building walls, they might give a hand.

I've been saying they need to build a wall like the Israeli's have......it makes sense to build a proper defensive wall to reduce the problems along the border.
