Veteran rice official Montree Promaluksana displays a hightech drone that can scan 1,000 rai of rice fields in 15 minutes with sensors to detect crop maturity, diseases and other vital signs.

A SOLUTION to lift Thai rice farmers out of a low-income trap has edged closer to reality with a German-Thai rice programme that showed “great promise” in the Northeast, the heartland of jasmine rice.

In Ubon Ratchathani province with 4.2 |million rai under “khao hom mali” (jasmine |rice) cultivation, farmers at the pilot project |in Baan Bua Thein said at the weekend that |they have reduced costs for planting by 20 |per cent while raising yields by another 20 per cent.

And I thought there was too much rice production.

I thought drones are banned in Thailand

Nice to know that it only takes "great promise" to reduce costs for planting by 20% while raising yields by another 20%.

The junta can just cease all its subsidy and soft loan progams and issue "great promise" directives to solve the sustainability of Thailand's agricultural sector.

Really, who is fooling whom?

If it stops them from producing 2 or 3 crops a year then that must be a good thing.

Do you actually think that "all" drones are banned "forever"? Really? Or are you one of those who just can't help scorning all things Thai.

Even with a soft loan how are rice farmers going to pay it back????. Why does farmers subsidies grieve you so much. people think rice farmers get hundreds of thousands from the goverment in way of subsidies in reality they get less than an average farang night out in Pattaya and that's for the year. wages have gone up this year for day workers to cut the rice from 300 last year to 400 this year. I am amazed how many families have not employed cutters this year and it's been all families hands to the pump. we that is my wife's family have been cutting for a week so far a job which last year was 3 days. We Me and the Mrs could pay for extra labor but we don't. So please stop getting so perplexed over subsidies which really is sod all to do with us farangs anyway.
