NARATHIWAT, 21 November 2016 (NNT) - The provincial Governor of Narathiwat has called a meeting with immigration officials to discuss plans to speed up the border-crossing process.

The meeting, chaired by Governor Sittichai Sakda, brought together representatives of bodies involved in immigration services to talk about factors delaying border crossings at Su-ngai Kolok Checkpoint and share their suggestions on the problem.

Pol Col Noppadon Ratchat explained that a lack of hi-tech ID verification devices was blamed for the time-consuming immigration process, adding Narathiwat Checkpoint has addressed the problem by increasing staff numbers during long holidays. He commented that Narathiwat Checkpoint should be equipped with more of the P.BIG online passport and E-fingerprint identification systems to better facilitate the border crossings of the public.

Governor Sittichai suggested Narathiwat Checkpoint personnel report to the director on the matter. The Governor will in the meantime submit details of the issue to the front command cabinet. He also asked immigration officials to continue to improve the service while tightening safety measures in preparation for the upcoming New Year.

Build a wall to keep them out then fast track immigration to let them in faster. A bit oxymoron.

Does Chiang Mai have a governor just asking.

I dont see why the world cant move towards a global e-passport.  A card that can be scanned on entry or exit - containing your biometrics and travel history and checked through a global system.  The whole paper passport stamp apply wait in line BS is last century.  If you have never had a travel infringement why should there be any need to apply visa, line up, stamp stamp, check etc.

E passport is rather blase don't you think? A microchip inside you would be better you could go to a house of ill repute do your thing and they would scan your chip and charge you. It would be a real treat for me to know that my government cares so much about my welfare bank account and of course my address at their fingertips. Oh Joy. They are working on the global part and as my currency stinks maybe I would also get a currency upgrade. I rather liked the last century we did not have all the above BS to worry about. Go back another century or 2 and I fancy myself as a rogue pirate stalking a Spanish treasure galleon. Stand by for a boarding party heave to hey this is fun.
