webfact
‘We won’t accept Brussels’ diktat’ – Hungary’s PM reiterates anti-migrant stance BUDAPEST: -- Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has reiterated his objections to the EU migrant resettlement scheme, saying he won’t accept what he called the Brussels ‘diktat’. Despite a referendum deemed invalid and losing parliamentary vote on his anti-migrant policies, he continues to speak his mind on the matter, this time on an official visit to Serbia, where he defended his position saying: “Life changes in countries where migrants arrive in masses. Maybe not in a day, but in a few years it will and our children and grandchildren will ask us: why have you allowed our homeland to change, why have you allowed Europe to change?” He argues that the migrant question is one of national sovereignty. The country has already responded to the flow of migrants over its border with a razor-wire fence. Orban’s last hopes of refusing 1,294 asylum seekers, are with the European Court of Justice, where a verdict is expected on the case next year. -- © Copyright Euronews 2016-11-

Oz government under Abbott authorised a one off Syrian refugee intake of 12,000, so far around 6,500 have been security vetted for entry. By 2019 Oz annual asylum seeker / humanitarian intake with be 19,000 p.a. Edited November 22, 2016 by simple1

Where does it say in the EU charters that any country must accept a quota of illegal migrants (many of whom might fail had they applied for asylum correctly) imposed by the Chancellor of Germany ? Or are you following tiny piss pot tax cheat Luxembourg in calling for Hungary's suspension and possible expulsion as they dare to challenge a EC diktat Mr. Juncke issued to support his patron (should that be matron) Mrs, Merkel? dick dasterdly
Its a common theme that is occurring more and more frequently - both in EU countries and now, the US. Who would have thought (a few years ago) that Le Pen would ever stand a chance of being elected?? The Eurocrats have screwed up badly.

craigt3365
I was just in Budapest a few weeks ago. Leaving via the train, the main station was packed with immigrants milling about. It was bizarre. Actually, a bit scary. We saw something similar at a place in a park where they were giving out free meals. Hundreds lining up for something to eat. My heart goes out to these people. Not something that's going to be easy to solve.
Retiredandhappyhere
Three cheers for orban and three cheers for Hungary. If the European Court of Justice rules against Orban and he still refuses to comply, what action can the EU take to enforce the ruling? Probably some kind of financial sanctions, as they can hardly force the migrants over the border, but this might incite a backlash and even in anextreme case Hungary's eventual withdrawal from the EU. The Eu can only interfere in a country's sovereignty so far before its citizens will revolt.
thaibeachlovers
He's the man. Good on him. However, as someone says, don't be part of the EU unless one wants to take the bad with the good. Better to work within to change the EU policy to sanity.

Except staying within the EU resulted in no change whatsoever as politicians looked to their own interests. Brexit came as a nasty shock, and it seems likely that a couple of other EU countries' elections may also come as a nasty shock to both the EU and the politicians in the countries involved.
