BANGKOK: -- The State Railway of Thailand in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand will organize a one-day trip from Bangkok to Chachoengsao and back by steam-engine trains on December 5 which coincides with the birthday anniversary of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The trip is divided into two classes: the first is for train ride back and forth between Bangkok and Chachoengsao with return ticket priced at 250 baht and a package tour priced at 999 baht.

The package tour air-conditioned bus ride to bring tourists to Bangkhla district for a free lunch and then to visit Wat Paknam Cholow to appreciate the beauty of the golden chapel and to Wat Hua Suan to see the stainless chapel, Wat Po Bangkhla and to observe giant fruit-eating bats.

The train will leave Hua Lampong railway station at 8 am. On the way back, it will leave Chachoengsao railway station at 4.30 pm and arrive in Bangkok at 6.30 pm.

Anyone who is interested to join the trip can call Customer service center at 1690.

This will probably be a sell out. Something the tourists will really enjoy.

Agreed, a chance to enjoy the romance and nostalgia of steam, very reasonably priced too.

Yes agreed very reasonable priced, would bring memories to old gits like me,can remember looking out of the windows smelling the smoke, the sounds, getting an eyeful of smuts etc. from the steam engines till you learned to only look rearwards, Halcyon days!

The train ride sounds great

But a tour of a Stainless Steel Temple

What goes on in the heads of some temple designers  :whistling:

Indeed sir and I doubt if it will be bought to a halt from leaves on the line . Ah , the smell of steam and oil , wish it could be put in an aerosol.

Having survived Thai steam engines and the choking smoke going through the many tunnels here was more than happy to bid them ado.   But admit there whistle was vastly more additive than current trains.

That would be a great day!   pity I am not back till the 20th.  )-:

Noisy, dirty, smelly, ugly things. This is going to be great fun.

Love steam engines and all that marvelous old engineering. iron. gun metal. bronze. oil and smoke...
