Phuket police charge Patong hill bus crash driver with reckless driving

PHUKET: -- Police have confirmed that the driver of a Phuket tour bus who said that brake failure caused him to lose control of his vehicle while descending Patong hill on Monday night (Nov 21) has been charged with reckless driving.

 

Patong Police Maj Teerasak Boonsang told The Phuket News today (Nov 24) that bus driver, Mr Uyporn Rattanasang, 51, has been charged with reckless driving causing injury to other people.

 

Patong Police were notified of an accident on Phra Baramee Rd at 10:23pm on Monday where it was reported that a bus carrying 19 Chinese tourists had crashed in front of the Sea Pearl Resort causing injury to two motorists.

The reporters only relay what the police say.  The police say it was reckless driving. Reading between the lines I would say the bus was goig too fast for the road conditions and the brakes could not stop the bus. Brake failure ? how about brain failure ...

Don't they mean to say that the driver fell asleep like most driver's do when there has been a accident

In the UK the vehicle would be inspected to see if there were any mechanical faults.

In the UK, more than half the bus drivers in Thailand would never qualify for a licence.

Not even half would qualify for a Public Service Vehicle licence as required to drive a bus in the UK.

They are inspected here in Thailand at the Dept of Transport. But how well ? Seems more like check the Vehicle Identification Number.
