Quoted 7000THB + yesterday from Isuzu for a 40k service on our Dmax 4x4.

Is it ok to use an alternate mechanic for a service and still retain warranty or do they need

some certification etc?

I had a V-Cross, one of the first and there were a number of Free Labour Services included, I just had to pay for the oil and filters. If you have a fully synthetic oil then that will cost about 3200thb, well it did when I had mine. I didn't use Tri Petch Fully Syn ... I took them Mobil 1... look in the Synthetic Topic for exactly which one... something like 5W-40 for Turbo Pickups

Isuzu Labour Costs are low compared to others, it's not worth bothering to find an alternate.

I can't remember what they do at 40K ... it's in your Service Book though. Maybe a lot of oils, brake fluid and change Radiator water.

We used Nakornluang in Chaengwattana Road (Just past Central) ... I can highly recommend them and some Service Guy speaks a bit of english.

Best to get your wife to ask for a price and what extras they do at 40K .You can find the dealerships at isuzu4u.com   Chaengwattana one is  DELETED

Oil is called Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Pickup 5W-40

As an aside...early on I blanked the EGR, as many do. Preferred the feel of the engine at low revs. If you do that and use a 'good quality' oil 15Kms between oil changes is fine (Isuzu engineer told me that) and it sounds reasonable ... only after end of warranty of course.

The drawback is that the engine takes longer to get to normal working temperature as the egr cooler doesn't heat the water anymore.

I still have the blanking plate.

I slso had a Basic Racechip installed ... that's long gone now though. Big demand for those here in Thailand

We actually found another dealer to do the service for 4600 THB. I still don't see how a "parts only" under 3 yo vehicle service can cost that much. I mean how much is oil and filters here?

the mobil 1 oil is 2,300 baht here - http://www.oilsquare.com/586051/โมบิล1-เทอร์โบ-ดีเซล-ปิคอัพ-mobil1-turbo-diesel-pick-up-6-ลิตร

so dealer prices will be quite a bit higher, so easy to get to 4,600 baht

Really? Well I have a 4wd so going to be more expensive too I guess. Still....even back home $200 buys  a lot of oil and filters. I still think they're covering the cost of the labour in the parts. I got my missus to get them to break it down for me last time and between her and them and the mysteries of Thailand was all too hard

If you want to use Mobil 1, as I mentioned in #2, take your own as the 3Ltr needs close to eight litres if I remember correctly.

Just look in your service book for what oils are changed at 40K.

And air filter is blown out every 10K and changed every 20K.

You should get a completely itemised bill.
