Work visa ?

Featured Replies

My lady is a English teacher with a work permit (visa ) she wants to change schools, the one works for now pays 18,000 B per month, the one she wants to work for pays 35,000 B per month, what we want to know is how can she leave the school she is at now and start at the new school, what happens with her current work permit , and how can she get the new permit,  and the new visa for the new school? does she have to move out of Thailand to get  a Non B visa for the new school or she can do it from inside Thailand at immigration?

It can be done but the chance of the school actually helping her with paperwork to transfer work permit is about .00005 %. Get a letter from old school terminating employment. Then cancel work permit. Get new school to prepare documents for new Non-B Visa/Work Permit. Leave country and get new Non-B.

Her current work permit would have to be canceled and new one issued for the new job.

I assume she is on an extension of stay obtained at immigration not a visa. When her job ends her extension ends.

I is possible to change jobs without leaving the country if the new school will apply for the new work permit and obtain a work permit application approval letter. Then with a letter from the current school stating the date she will no longer be working there a new extension could applied for by showing the approval letter and paper work from the new school after current extension is cancelled.

Then the current work permit could be canceled and the new on issued.

Work permits are never transferred. The existing one has to be canceled and new one issued.

Just out of curiosity, would the fact she's already working in Thailand cause any problems getting the new work permit application approval letter in advance of leaving her old job, or is that a common procedure?

It is often done. The application can be made but the work permit will not be issued until the existing one is cancelled.

Thanks for that.  I'd bet it's reassuring to have the approval letter in hand before jumping ship, even if the formality of the actual WP is still pending.  Especially after reading some of the posts from guys whose new employer didn't seem to ever be able to produce the promised paperwork.
