NRSA discusses establishment of national cyber security commission

BANGKOK, 28 November 2016 (NNT) – A committee on media reform has suggested the establishment of a national cyber security commission to protect the Kingdom’s internet and computer network systems.

At the latest meeting of the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA), the body reviewed a study of the nation’s Cyber Security Legislation submitted by its committee on media reform. The report indicated Thailand’s computer networks are at high risk of attack and its data under threat of theft. One portion said many databases in the Kingdom could be destroyed by online attacks, thus causing widespread damage.

A key issue in the report was that the country does not have a central agency to coordinate protection and maintenance of computer networks. It called for such a commission to be set up and for plans to be drafted to safeguard the country’s digital security.

While the assembly acknowledged the need for the commission, it also pointed out the need to educate the public and to have citizens better understand their own computer security.

Sounds like the government needs to upgrade their own internet security rather than worrying about everyone else.

I have never had a bad experience with Bangkok Bank and their customer service for Farangs is great, but the last time I was in the main office in Hua Hin, there was a computer that was so old it had a "Y2K ready" sticker on it.

In other words Big Brother wants to watch you.
