Thai economy in Oct grows

BANGKOK, 29 November 2016 (NNT) - The overall Thai economy in October still expanded well due to an increase in private consumption and public expenditure as well as continuously increasing agricultural production.

Deputy Director of the Fiscal Policy Office Pornchai Theerawet said the private consumption in October increased following a rise in newly registered motorcycles for seven consecutive months. The public expenditure continued to grow after budget totalling more than 4.3 trillion baht was disbursed—a 16% increase compared to the same period last year.

However, the deputy director said exports dropped in almost all markets except Japan, China and the CLMV group.

The agricultural production index in October continuously increased but agricultural product price slightly dropped, especially rice price, due to its harvest season. The industrial confidence index in October increased for second consecutive months following higher demand from domestic and international consumers.

The inflation rate increased at a similar rate as the previous month and the employment rate remained low at 1.2%.

So where is producing GDP growth that would outpace the 2.8% annual rate last year?

Following article - total exports contracted by 2.8%!

OK, let me think...............

OK, I guess 840 is a bit steep..................

But I can remember a bowl of noodles (in a food stall or restaurant) being under 10 baht and what are they now? I think about 50 baht or so is about the least you can find them now days...........

But I also can remember buying Diesel for my truck for 8 baht a liter and now around 35 or 40 baht.

So considering those factors and the rising cost of paying the police for your driving mistakes, I may not be too far off..............

A bowl of noodles in 1984 was Bt15, and Bt20 for special. Now it is Bt40 and 50. Minimum wage was Bt110. Now it is Bt300.

I would say, pay has actually risen higher than cost...

Errrmm no that'd a typo of course. Translation to English on nearly every TV article is woeful

I been coming to Thailand for over 30 years and have bought many Thai ladies a bowl of noodles and I know what I paid......................

My comment was well intended as a comparison, but I'm not here to argue with other posters...........

So.............................. YOU WIN.......................

Lets just drop it now.................. YOU WIN.........

Why do the low income earners now feel that the cost of living for them seems higher?

They don't have smartphones then, nor do teens 3 decades ago insist on motorcycles instead of bicycles...

Now they live on easily available credit and debts.

It is the massive increase in Tourist revenue, of course... don't you pay attention when the Tourist Minister makes an announcement?

Richest 1 percent of Thais own 58 percent of country’s wealth

No doubt 1% of the population will be pleased with this result!

Perhaps, this is where the 1.2% employment rate comes from?

How is that any different from most other countries in the West? In the UK, 1% of the population owns greater than 70% of all land there!

Govt spending according to basic macroeconomics is the biggest factor that affects GDP (economic growth). This govt is propping up the economy through ongoing massive spending. Wait and see when the money runs out....
