AYUTTHAYA: -- The rich heir accused of killing two graduate students in his Benz back in March has appeared in court.

But Jenphop Viraporn  admitted to only one charge - that of negligent driving. To six other charges he entered a plea of not guilty.

Meanwhile the relatives of the two people killed have called for compensation in excess of 100 million baht, reports Daily News.

The case has been a sensation in Thailand and revolves around the plight of ordinary people and a hi-so who frequently appears above the law

It relates to an accident on March 13th in the Bang Pa-In area of Ayuthaya when Jenphon drove his Benz into the back of a Ford. In the Ford were Kritsana Thaworn, 32, and Thanthaphat Horsaengchai, 34.

The Chulalongkorn University bachelor students were incinerated when their car exploded. Jenphop escaped with minor injuries.

The case was mired in police mismanagement. The original investigation team that stalled in the case was replaced with a new one that has managed to bring the case to court.

Following initial statements in the Ayuthaya court yesterday the family of Thanthaphat said that Jenphop had admitted to only negligence.

All other charges in the death of the students were denied by the multi millionaire.

The mother of Kritsana, visibly upset, said: "I don't know what to say about him only admitting to negligent driving".

Kamonrat Horsaengchai, 59, the mother of Thanthaphat said that the family have claimed total damages of 100,635,503 baht.

She said that the bulk of the money would be used in setting up a foundation in honor of her daughter and providing more for road awareness campaigns.

She said that she wanted the case to set an example for other victims of road accidents and demands that Jenphop pays for what he has done to both families.

Both families said they were happy to let the case run its course and hope that justice will prevail.

The court adjourned the case so that more witness statements could be prepared. It will be in session again on December 2nd.

Jenphop and his legal team were whisked away after the hearing leaving without further comment.

Criminals typically don't admit to their crimes.  It's up to the justice system to prove it.  Sadly, the justice system here has a few "issues". LOL

He was caught in the act and should pay the price.  Setting an example like this is a great thing.  Best of luck to the victims family.

IIRC most of the time when someone commits a crime the sentence is reduced if they plead guilty. However he has only pleaded guilty on the least of the charges so in theory if he is found guilty on the other 4 charges he will get no discount on his sentences.

With a bit of luck they will run consecutively so he will spend more time in jail.

negligent driving ?

ah that explains it then, it was the shock of seeing your negligent driving that these young students just rolled over and died and their car disintegrated on its own - maybe it was windy

What a pathetic coward

I know and most falangs also know there is different rules for HI-SO people in Thailand however doesn't mean he shouldn't go to jail and pay "blood money "to the Thai family ,but they will not get near the 100 million bhat they are asking for ,they will get a fraction of that ,I also  think the police who stalled on the case should also get punished but again we know this will never happen ,they just get moved to a new area and continue as though they never did anything wrong.

He plays all sorts of tricks.
Break a barrier,  Super high speeding , killing 2 innocent people, plays the dying patient in the hospital,
refused an alcohol and drug test,  suddenly has mental problems,  hides for days in a temple,
then he does not have a lawyer, now he has a lawer team, a.s.o.

Hopefully the court does not like this time these kind of law distorting games.
He belongs into the prison and that fast and long.
Or did he get his driving license already back?

Why not start a private police-force that operates on the roads?? Just like we all hire our own securityguards to protect our houses??

The police won't do it so maybe we should start our own policeforce? I'm willing to pay for that.

DELETED

Let me get this straight ... the two dead girls are partly to blame because they were driving down the road. And you can not blame the driver who hit them, lit them on fire, and caused their deaths. In all the posts I have read on TV this one takes the cake.

What about the Redbull killer????

This case seems to be handle more or less such that it has come to court, that is still very doubtful for the Redbull killer case .

the Prosecutor and police on the Redbull killer case can learn a lot from this case.

Or maybe have to move the Redbull killer case also to the courts in Ayuthaya?? as Bangkok courts seems to be unable to prosecute a police killer.

You got to believe that all the RTP efforts to  victimise them would come into play, at the same time ignoring everything else that needs policing.

you really are talking the biggest pile of nonsense, both these girls were killed because this drunken a'hole lost control of his car travelling at high speed and crashed into their car, this incident resulted in both of them losing their young lives

for Christ sake give it a rest

This is the same as the Red Bull kid; only he did not run away to Hong Kong.

Both families will get 2-4 million. He will get 5 years probation.

No your not getting that cake away from the Red bull guy.  He may have to invite the Killer in the duel Brit murders for a slice though.
