Central bank admits crackdown on zero-dollar package tours has greater impacts than earlier projected

BANGKOK: -- The government’s crackdown on zero-dollar package tours from China may have greater impacts on tourism business than earlier projected but whether the impacts will affect the GDP or not is yet to be assessed together with the overall economic performance, said Mr Don Nakornthap, senior director of Macro-economic Policy Office of the Bank of Thailand, on Wednesday.

More and more youngsters under 15 die of road accidents involving motorbikes

BANGKOK: -- A total of 943 youngsters less than 15 years of age died or motorcycle-related road accidents last year and, of these, 378 of them are motorcycle riders in 10-14 age group, according to the Centre for the Promotion of Safety and Prevention of Injuries among Children.

BANGKOK: -- The management of Nawakit Ban Muang Company announced on Wednesday that it would stop publication of Ban Muang daily newspaper as of January 1 because it could no longer carry on with the business under the present circumstances.

Distribution of cash handouts to registered poor commences on Dec 3

BANGKOK: -- The Finance Ministry has decided to postpone the distribution of one-time cash handouts to the country’s 8.3 million registered poor people from December 1 to December 3 in order that officials of the Revenue Department can recheck that their actual annual income is below 100,000 baht or not.

Fishing Foes Not Forgotten: Prayuth revokes statute of limitations for illegal fishing infractions

BANGKOK: -- Prayuth Chan-ocha has done that thing he does best today: invoking Section 44 of the interim constitution. This time, he’s using his absolute power to remove the statute of limitations for those facing illegal fishing charges. The reason is because many of the accused have simply fled the country in hopes of waiting out the statute.
