Private sector to celebrate Thai fragrant jasmine rice’s winner's title

BANGKOK, 2 December 2016 (NNT) – The private sector will organize a party to celebrate Thai fragrant jasmine rice’s title win from the World Rice Conference.

Commerce Ministry Permanent Secretary Wiboonlak Ruamrak said that the Rice Exporters Association of Thailand will organize a party to celebrate Thai fragrant jasmine rice’s title win from the World Rice Conference, which was held in Chiang Mai during 16-18 November.

The party will be held on 8 December 2016 at the Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok. The Associations of Thai Farmers, the Thai Rice Mill Association and embassies of countries that had bought Thai rice have been invited to the event.

Thai Rice Exporters Association President Charoen Laothammathas said that the prize was testament to Thai fragrant jasmine rice's top stature in the world and as the pride of the Thai people.

He said that rice exports will exceed 9.5 million tons, and could even reach 10 million tons this year.

The World Rice Conference?

Never heard of this, where was it held? Sounds like The event to be seen at...

Ah, held in Chiang Mai , that makes things a lot clearer.

For a certain measure of clear that is.

I've given up eating jasmine rice.  It's either so old as to be flavourless, or so adulterated with ordinary rice as to be flavourless.

American's have had Jasmine rice for well over 20 years, probably 30. I once mentioned to some rice farmers down in SE Texas that the Thai growers had obtained a patent, they laughed. Then they said we've been growing it for years.
