The other night I was talking with my girl and I told her I had to go to a company dinner on Thursday night (I had just been to one a couple of weeks ago) and she announced "ลาภปาก". "Lahp Bpahk".

Anyone have any idea of what it means? She told me I wouldn't be able to find out and we've got a little bet going!

I've never specifically heard this phrase, I don't think, but it would mean "mouth fortune," i.e. what good luck for you mouth, to get to eat at (another) company dinner, because the food will be free and you can high quality food/all you want.

Makes sense to me... anyone else have any revisions of my understanding?

Something like "good for your mouth" .. but I defer to experts

My wife says it is a little impolite statement referring to being very excited to be able to stuff one's self but for free (it's slang).

it literally translates to good fortune for the mouth. can be used in the literal sense such as your GF did when you announced a free (supposedly nice) meal.

Actually this saying is used quite often among Thais. It means 'windfall'. It can be used not only about food but also anything which you get by fortune. But mostly used with food.

For example,

You go visit your friend. When you get there you find out that your friend has cooked a special food. You can tell your friend that ' โชคดีจังเลย วันนี้มีลาภปากได้กินของพิเศษเสียด้วย'

I agree, but only if you dont know them well. If they are close than it would be OK.

If you dont know them that well then maybe something like

โชคดีจังเลย วันนี้มีลาภปากอีกเเล้ว a little more polite..
