BANGKOK:-- THE COUNTRY will be much reformed and developed following the promulgation of the military-sponsored constitution which passed a referendum in August, junta-backed figures told a seminar yesterday.

 

However, a Pheu Thai Party politician and a scholar voiced concerns over the reform plan, saying such moves should be inclusive to ensure that reforms are in line with people’s needs. 

“A constitution is written to put rules in place for the country’s administration, to make ‘raw powers, big families’, play the game under the same rules,” Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) spokesman Udom Rathamarit said during the seminar in Bangkok about the nation’s future under the new charter.

Ah yes the unspecified, unwritten and unachievable 'reforms' which we have heard so much about, but seen so little. 

When this lot came to power, they said one of their important reforms was going to be the RTP, and they could do it because no civilian government could ever take it on.

 

Years later, and what? 

 

Also not many high profile corruption or drugs prosecutions since then either (of 'connected' persons).

 

Elite tolerance of corruption will ultimately destroy this country.

Every word that tumbles out of their mouths is a smoke screen, either orthogonal to or opposite the truth, intended to confuse and distract.

while it hasnt been as fast as it could, they have stopped more corruption and come down on those committing it harder than any other govt as yet, the only ones that dont see it or acknowledge it are the idiots that still think the ptp/thaksin/reds sh*t dont stink. Admittedly the govt could do a lot more but so far they have done so much more than the any of the others ever did, that cannot be denied, its the crap that comes out every so often that buggers them up

Thailand should arguably be the most "reformed" country in the world, considering all the times the military has intervened in its democratic processes!!! 

 

As history has shown, "reform" in this country is nothing more than an anagram of "former". 

 

 

"Reform" must have a different meaning in Thai...

it's a military constitution. Written by and for the military. It will do nothing to stop corruption. And it will do nothing at all to stop corruption among the military. It is just elite control with elections. 

 

Thaksin is a stupid snot, but the military is the problem and the military has been a problem since 1932

the famous "reforms before elections" has now just become "eternal reforms, now and forever, amen".

How so ? Only been an army since 1874. Before that resistance to invasion relied upon the mobilized populace led by a few aristocrats. What finally stopped the Burmese was annexation by the British.

Either way ...........  over the years they were no match for the Burmese except under the reign of King Naresuan.

 

 

 

Reform what?

If leaders do not have aspiration or dreams of a society with equality of justice for all, regardless of race, class or religion for Thai citizens then there will be NO reforms!

The elite will continue to rule (under one guise or another) despite all the platitudes freely given to the masses to placate them.
