Hello,

I’d like to ask how I can get a visa to England with no savings in the bank.

Now, I’m staying with an English man in Thailand and we cannot see the future here so, we decided to go England but the biggest problem is we don’t have any savings in the bank. We can get the money to apply for a visa and the air fare. So can anyone please suggest what we can do? What do we have to prepare?

We met each other on an internet site in July 2006. We have been together for quite a long time and I have still got the first email that he sent me. I also have worked as a teaching assistance at the previous school that he worked and I am teaching Japanese at his current school.

I’ve graduated from university (B.A. English major, Japanese minor). I can speak English very well so it’s not a problem with an interview at the embassy. I would be very grateful if anyone can help.

Thanks in advance

Pook

I can see the gent marking this one down as a troll and indeed it may be . In case it is genuine i think a short answer will suffice.

Without savings you cannot show ability to maintain yourselves. Without money you cannot show you can accomodate yourselves , and with no job to go back to you cannot show reason to return.

I don't think you have a hope until you get some money.

if he is an englishman it can be done - I know of an unemployed and without any savings or property bringing his wife to the UK.

it would be good if he has some accommodation in the UK (parents, relatives) or applied for a job in the UK.

Since July 2006 is not really a long time! You say you and he see no future in Thailand, does this mean that you wish to live in England permanently? Do you want to live with him forever and he with you? If so, you could apply for a fiance visa and get married in England within 6 months before applying for leave to remain, or marry in Thailand and then apply for a settlement visa.

For either application, you will need to show that you can be financially supported in England and that you will have somewhere to live. If neither your boyfriend or you have savings, it would have to come down to whether he can show that someone - such as a parent or relative - is prepared to sponsor your application, by confirming in writing that he/she will support you financially, can accommodate you if necessary and has the means to do so. You could also indicate that you are going to work in England as well as your boyfriend. If he had a job or a job offer in England it would also help.

What type of visa; visit or settlement?

If a visit then his family could sponsor you if he can't afford to do so.

If settlement then this is also possible, but he, and preferably you too, will need to show that he has a good chance of finding work once in the UK.

You met each other on an internet site in July 2006, when did you meet in person? Whether visit or settlement you will need to show a substantive, genuine relationship.

Thanks so much for the replys. I am sorry but I got the year wrong, we have been together since July 2005! Sorry about that and we have been living together since I have graduated last February but we seeing each every week before then. My boyfriend and I are planning to get married before we apply for a visa and he has a job offer already in the U.K and also we would be living with his mother. We just don't know what to do and how to go about applying in these cricumstances. If you could give me anymore help I would be very pleased.

Thanks

That sounds rather more hopeful, Pook. If you're married and your (now) husband has a job in England by the time you apply for a settlement visa and you can live with his mum, then I shouldn't think you would have too many difficulties with the application. You'll need a letter from his mother confirming that you can live with her and that she has space for you at her house, plus a copy of the tenancy agreement or Land Registry Entry showing her as the property owner. She will probably also have to state that she is prepared to support you financially if need be and give a copy of her bank statements/savings as you indicated you and your boyfriend don't have any. Your boyfriend (husband by the time you apply) will have to provide evidence of his job in the UK and you'll need the marriage certificate translated into English and certified at the British Embassy. Then you're ready to complete the application form and go for a TB test through the International Organisation for Migration on Sathorn Road. Have a look around this site for general advice on forms plus the Visa Centre in Bangkok where you actually apply. Good luck.

Hi Pook,

With the additional information and correction of date to 2005, your application has a lot more credability now and you do have a fair chance of success. You do need to do a lot of homework though and read up on what you need to provide. The fact that you intend to marry before applying does strengthen your case as well.

Good luck !!
