Dept of Fisheries to train officials to meet international standards

BANGKOK, 5 December 2016 (NNT) - The Department of Fisheries has organized a training program for its personnel at fish quarantine centers in order to meet quality standards set by the European Union.

Director-General of the Department of Fisheries Adisorn Promthep said the personnel of his department play a crucial role in the implementation of policies that would lift the EU’s yellow card on Thailand’s fishing industry. The department has therefore organized a training program to prepare officials for increased standards in fish importing, exporting, and processing.

The training program aims to enable officials to carry out the department’s policy to address illegal fishing and ensure credibility at the international level.

I wonder what standards they had been trained for...

Primary school?

I thought the Department of Fisheries were responsible for not implementing policies that got the yellow card in the first place?

They used the words credibility and Thailand in the same article.

His department plays a crucial role in the implementation of policies..... I thought that the crucial role was the EU's threats.

All they have to do to prove to us that they are serious, competent, and not corrupt, is to start arresting people in a position of influence and power, for slave trading, and human trafficking.

To have much success training most Thai on government payroll, to have credibility, is several years late in starting.  The whole system of hiring, promotion, working, etc is not based on credibile education nor training in the job they are assigned to do properly, why should they change now.?

There have been more illegal workers, factories, boats, and equipment, etc discovered recently, than the past 4 governments combined, unless they stumbled over it, and they could not find time to even check boat liscenses.

What do they say about new tricks and old dogs? I see no mention of a new litter of pups being trained by knowledgable honest people as needed, as most on payroll now are incompentent/corrupt, top to bottom.

ONLY the japanese restaurants and the owner (farang) from Sizzlers can train Thai staff.....i've never been in a Thai restaurant (thai owner) where the staff was trained well.

So ask them to train the officials.
