December 6, 20169 yr in the news video it stated that this is the first increase on the baht bus fares in 2 decades, not true i came here 17 years ago and the fare was 5 baht then went to 10 baht a few years ago, now going to 20 baht. why do thais only ever increase by 100% ?
December 6, 20169 yr Well I guess this increase hits those least able to afford it. It's a bit difficult to understand the reason for the increase. The main cost driver would be fuel prices which are fairly benign at the moment.

I first came here 16 years ago (Aug.2000) and they were 10 baht then (for Farangs - 5 baht for Thais), hardly a few years ago! I was amazed at how cheap they were then, and I'm amazed that they haven't gone up before now. In that time the cost of living in Thailand has gone up by about 25% and the cost of diesel is about double what it was then. Where else in the world can you get a ride so cheap, albeit not very comfortable! If you think 20 baht is expensive, try using a taxi!

December 6, 20169 yr A bit steep for the locals who have to get to work and back. That's 40 B out of their meagre wages. I really think there should be some sort of card /Pass for workers and school kids , and free travel for Thai pensioners too as 40 B A day is way too much. I think it's fine for tourists though, still cheap compared to taxis.
December 6, 20169 yr Actually, there is a rumor floating around that the increase is only for the foreigners and not the Thai themselves. I do not, repeat, do not know if this is true. My intention is NOT to add fuel to this rumor but, to see if someone can confirm or deny this rumor.
December 7, 20169 yr been coming here for over 30 years and as long as I remember it have been ฿10 for forenger and fare back it was ฿5 for locals and that fare went up to ฿10. Also many people don't pay the ฿20 if they go from Jomtien to north Pattaya after passing 3rd road the fare go up ฿10. Seen this so many times. Hopefully the fare stay at ฿10 or go up to ฿15 for locals. The fare for privat bus from big C Pattaya Thai or south Pattaya and Tesco/Lotus south Pattaya have gone up to ฿200 from ฿150 since August the signs have said ฿200 but they have charged ฿150 use this service once a week.
December 7, 20169 yr The entire Baht Bus system needs an overhaul with more routes added, a proper printed route map published, and drivers actually adhering to these routes (and corresponding fares). 45 or so Baht Buses drive along 2nd road in a minute with no PAX on board, whereas other nearby thoroughfares or secondary roads have ZERO public transport
