I have been asked by a friend of a friend about the likely outcome if she goes to the police to report her ex boyfriend because of the following circumstances. He has no money, he's living rough and his passport is 2 months out of date and what concerns her most is that he's not at all well. I don't know this guy and have no sympathy for him, but his ex gf is a very nice, caring person and wants to do the best for him.

If the police or immigration accepted the report he would be picked up and be put into the immigration center until he could pay his overstay fine and buy a ticket out of the country.

I assume you mean his current entry ended two months not his passport has expired.

Perhaps a better route would be to contact his embassy to find out what assistance they could offer. Some would loan him money to pay the over stay fine and buy a ticket home.

The fine for a two month overstay would be 20,000 baht that could be paid on departure from the country.

Thanks for the reply, it's about what I expected. His passport has indeed expired, but he's probably on overstay as well. Out of interest, what happens if he can't come up with the money, will he be locked up indefinitely?

Ok, ignore this, looks like the gf has contacted the father and is waiting for a phone call.

if the bloke is sick ,and on his own ,he needs help .  embassy would be the best first step .

Ratting him out to the greedy cops would be a terrible thing to do. He needs help swiftly and a way out of the country. He should get in touch with his embassy.

I would imagine he knows that! Anyway hopefully his father will help him out.
