BANGKOK: -- Jane Namchaisiri is the wealthiest of all the 33 new members of the National Legislative Assembly, according to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Any time a Thai tries to tell you that Sakdina is a part of the past and no longer exists in Thailand, simply point to the fact that each person's wealth is reported "as legally required" in conformance with the institutionalized, legislated Sakdina system of inequality where a person's wealth makes their voice in court take precedence over persons of lesser wealth.

I don't dispute that Sakdina is still widespread in Thailand.  However, office holders are required by law to disclose their assets within three months of entering a higher political office.  The Anti-Corruption Commission requires the disclosure upon entering office, and leaving office, to determine if an office holder became unusually wealthy while in office.  The typical penalty for failing to file an asset disclosure is a 5-year ban from holding political office.  http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/957379-jeng-dokjik-banished-from-politics-for-5-years/

All the money in the world and his name is Jane!

Probably married to a woman called Bill  . . .

When I was young there was a popular song, "A Boy Named Sue." The kid's father had no money or property to leave him, so gave him the name so he would grow up having to fight every day and become strong, self-confident, and able to make his way in the world. This doesn't sound the same.
