Organizers of events at Sanam Luang told to prioritize appropriateness

BANGKOK, 9 December 2016 (NNT) – The government has advised any parties wishing to host events in Sanam Luang ceremonial ground to ensure that such activities are appropriate for the time of mourning.

Following its latest meeting, the Center for Situation Monitoring made known that emphasis is being placed on the organizing of events in Sanam Luang. The center insisted that anyone planning activities at the site must seek permission from the responsible subcommittee of the Peace and Order Maintaining Command beforehand.

As the Thai people continue to mourn the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, it is mandatory that all activities are organized with the objective of paying tribute to the late monarch. Ministries and provincial administrations are encouraged to give initial consideration to any projects proposed by units under their jurisdiction in a bid to make sure they befit the late King’s honor.

As for the paying of respects to the beloved King at the Grand Palace, the center pointed out that mourners from other regions of the country usually arrive in the early morning to queue up for entry. Therefore, it is recommended that residents of Bangkok and its vicinity make their visit in the afternoon instead so as to avoid congestion.
