Paris wages war on exploding rat population

 

 

First it was pollution, now Paris has a major rat problem to contend with.

 

Five parks have temporarily been shut in the French capital as authorities try to tackle the city’s four million strong rodent population.

 

Officials say rat numbers have swelled due to increased litter.

 

They’re also urging people not to feed pigeons.

 

Gilles Demodice, a City Hall official said: “The problem exists because people come and feed them. It’s not that they actually want to feed them in the first place, they want to feed birds and stray cats but in the end rodents are the ones who benefit from it”

 

Paris’ pest controllers say the rats have turned their noses up to baited traps because of rich pickings elsewhere.

 

The city’s bins are being redesigned to prevent the vermin from getting inside, while exits to the sewer system are also being blocked.

 

The rat crackdown comes as Paris is mired in its worst pollution in a decade caused by freezing weather trapping exhaust fumes and other pollutants.

contact Loretta Mayer and Cheryl Dyer of SenesTech for advice.

Rats Blamed For Bubonic Plague, But Gerbils May Be The Real Villains. Just what France needs now, with all the new litter from the "refugees" and no go areas for the police and army. In this financially motivated world it would seem sensible to make their capture profitable. Put them on the menu along with sparrows and snails, Rat-a-tooie rolls smoothly off the tongue :)

Here's an idea:  Take the amount they spent on controlling the rats last year, divide that by the number of rats they killed, and offer that as a bounty to anyone who brings in dead rats to collection centers.  Tax free, no documents required.

 

If it's a typical socialist government program, it'll be something like $20 (or more) per rat.

 

Could be gainful employment for quite a few of their refugee guests...  And some extra cash for low wage and unemployed locals, too.

People say (and I don't know if it is true) that in Manhattan you are never more than ten feet away from a rat. I'm not really a rat lover, but since living in Thailand I have eaten it, it's not bad.

I can make two rats into thousands in just a few months, good income.

And offset the cost by putting a tax on all the rat farms that will spring up.
