Dhammakaya temple asks protection from court

BANGKOK: -- Dhammakaya temple today asked for protection of its former abbot, Phra Dhammachayo, from the Criminal Court, after learning that police will storm the temple to arrest him.

The request for protection was sought by the temple’s lawyer this morning.

Its lawyer told reporters at the Criminal Court that he was designated to lodge complaint and sought protection after rumour was spread that several thousands of police and officials from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will enter the temple today after they have been granted warrant from the court to search the temple for the former abbot.

The lawyer said the temple requested the Criminal Court to abort the search warrant.

It was not immediately known which court issued the search warrant for the DSI, the Pathum Thani Provincial Court or the Criminal Court.

At press time, there was no response yet from the court to the temple’s request.

Asks protection from the court !! is that some kind of joke????

If  Dhammachayo is there send him out to face justice !! ohh sorry this is Thailand !!

Asking a court to protect one who has a court issued arrest warrant?

Perhaps they should pray harder for Buddha's protection...

Form the court was heard the sounds of laughter and a voice saying

You cannot be serious.jpg

I was talking to my Dad recently on the phone and he accused me of overusing the word "bizarre".

But what other adjective could you use here.

With so many lost faces accumulating at the gates of the wat, no one will be able to get in or out!!!

It is only bizarre if you take the pronouncements at face value.

What the police and the temple are not saying is that the temple is supported both financially and in terms of fervour by some very heavy hitters in Thai industry. That the amount of money passing through this temple is so extraordinary, one is led to a likelihood of money laundering being involved somewhere. That the supporters of this temple both have strong links to the current administration (so can influence actions taken by the police, the DSI, the OAG) and can seriously weaken the current administration through erosion of its Bangkok support base and shifting its financial support away from it.

Behind the scenes there will be furious negotiating, bribing, calling in of favours and threats to try to move assets from one party to another and to shape the outcome of any investigation.

The rubbish that is fed to the press represents little more than superficial gloss.

Remember whilst administrations come into power through various ploys in Thailand, they are kicked out by people in Bangkok. Look at Thai history.

Dhammakaya Asks Court To Cancel Search Warrant As Tensions Mount

By Asaree Thaitrakulpanich, Staff Reporter -

Boonyachayo, a monk and spokesman of Dhammakaya temple, thanks police Tuesday morning for their help protecting the temple.

PATHUM THANI — As police gathered around the Dhammakaya Temple headquarters in Pathum Thani on Tuesday to execute a search warrant, the temple filed a motion for judicial relief.

Temple lawyer Thatchanon Pornbaiyoke filed an emergency appeal with the Criminal Court asking that it overturn a search warrant authorizing law enforcement to enter the sprawling temple grounds north of Bangkok in a bid to arrest its fugitive long-time abbot. No officers from the Department of Special Investigation had attempted to enter the temple as of early Tuesday afternoon.

WOW  WOW  WOW  what a circus.  Why don't they say they self arrested him, and he will be serving his time at the Temple!?

There ya go.  Problem solved.  Just gotta get the money back, if they didn't already.

Well, they are rich, so perhaps reasonable to assume they are above the law. Many precedents here they could cite.

Thainess  :whistling:

Several thousands of police and army going to the temple today  :shock1:

Are they getting free food and a brown bag each??  :whistling:

Yes Nikmar, bizarre is entirely appropriate to use here.  There are other possible options but they either fail in comparison to bizarre, or they are words likely to be considered unusable in this forum.

I think something is about to go down, a suspicious bleary eyed man wearing an orange robe who parked his pink Bentley in a nearby Soi was seen entering the temple early this morning.

I have learned from a reliable source they are just stalling until they can aquire enough lithium crystals to power their flying saucer.

request for protection was sought

How about protective custody then in a Bangkok jail?

DSI has some special cells for high value defendents.

cull this cult... NOW!!!

I want the court to deny search in temple.  just so the farce can continue in lala land

Religious people are usually delusional but this brings delusion to a whole new level.
But you know what? It worked. DSI backed down.
So much for rule of law in this country.

Please make this a soap with English subtitles TIT

That person has been VERY quiet for the last couple of years.

I wonder why?

Yep, that's the way to go. They surely don't belong here. Warp factor 10 and give the problem to the Klingons, who wouldn't waste any time on deciding what to do.
