Visa run Koh chang - cambodia

Featured Replies

I have a visa on arrival 30 days and can extend it for 30 days 1900 b at the pier on the other side of Chang. I only need 12 days and can go the border with my scooter.

Is it possible to stamp out and get back directly without paying a Cambodian visa or do I have to buy a cambodian visa and go in and out. Do i have to pay any additional costs? Does it take a long time @ Had Lek?

Tomorrow I have to go so hope you can help me out!

You will need to get a "visa on arrival" (VOA) for Cambodia, then stamp in and out of Cambodia before you can return to Thailand.

Pay in USD for your Cambodian VOA or you will get a terrible exchange rate.  100 Baht is usually a sufficient unofficial 'fee' added to the normal $30 for the VOA, though that crossing is notorious for demanding more.  Some Cambodian borders will also ask for extra for an 'in-out' same-day return.

Since you said you have a "visa on arrival" entry to Thailand, are you from a country which qualifies for those**? - or is it a "visa-exempt entry" to Thailand?  If it is a "visa-exempt entry," you could extend it for 30 days at an immigration office in Thailand, if you have not done so already.

** VOA to Thailand countries (Andorra, Bhutan, Bulgaria, China, Taiwan, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan , Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan)

From Ko Chang, with your own transport, consider going to Ban Laem (Chantaburi province) instead. My experience (not recent) is that Ban Laem is a much quieter and friendlier border post, especially on the Cambodian side. The travel time will be almost the same.

At Ban Laem, you can probably just buy the Cambodian VOA (for US$30) with no further extras. Do make sure you have dollars.

This is so far by scooter...

It makes sense to go to Cambodia.  If you want to travel *within* Cambodia and then come back.

Otherwise, just go to the nearest immigration office.  Here, another person did the same thing and meticulously documented it (of course ask locals every step of the way because Change Happens, 555):
