HAT YAI: --  A raid by soldiers and police on a football gambling den in Hat Yai resulted in the arrest of 42 punters and staff yesterday evening.

The den - named Fort Sport Club - was operating in Petchkasem Soi 6 behind a branch of Big C.

The authorities found 170,000 on the tables and confiscated that and a quantity of computers and photo copy machines.

The gamblers were betting on foreign football matches with Bournemouth vs Southampton taking place during the raid ahead of the eagerly awaited clash between Manchester City and Arsenal in the top four of the English Premiership.

If gambling is illegal, why haven't the police raided every lottery ticket seller in Thailand?

The lottery is Government run, and along with certain horse racing tracks, are legal in Thailand as far as gambling goes.

Every other form of gambling is strictly illegal. although some are run by the powers that be,.and,  somehow, avoid the radar, and continue to operate.
